Sean Stamps

Hi, all! Sean Stamps here.

Hope everyone is doing well. I visited the camp this past summer of '99 and got to see so many old friends and relive so many precious memmories. Thanks to everyone for those! Things are going great for me.
I'm finishing my first year at Berklee College of Music in Boston as a film scoring major and (just to brag) making Dean's list all the way. If anyone wants to get in touch with me, drop a line to BassMantis@aol.com
Take care of yourselves!

I am still living between Baltimore and Washington, but just got back from a world tour of sorts... 2 years in Japan, and a much earlier stint in  Taiwan for 13 months. Oddly, I saw no one from Winnebago over there, but I did meet an old Camper (from a few years before my summers  there) in France circa '82. I haven't seen anyone since I saw Uncle Phil back in the mid 80's. I've been working as a therapist for families and  children, most recently for theAir Force, in Japan. I have switched careers, and am now marketing a startup Info-Tech firm, just in the early   planning phase of a web-based service, and software development.
I'd like to hear from campers and counselors from the early 80s. Oddly enough, I was actually humming the tune, and telling a friend the words  to"John Parola" just last week!! I still use that same clown wig!! Oh what memories... Anybody remember how bad you all beat Hidden Valley Camp at soccer back in 84? Did that contest continue into other years? That was mylast Summer in Maine, so...

Dylan Ris

Hello everyone.  I'm now a sophomore theatre major at Northwestern.  I've been a counselor for the past two summers and was previously a camper for six years.  While I swore prior to last year that I'd take a summer off in 2000, I knew by the middle of July that I had to be back at camp.  Saw a number of Winnebagans during a trip up to New York last month-- they're coming back too.  So I'm here having a great time at school and counting the days once again.  See you all soon.

Marek Rejter

Hello everyone,

Just wanted to let you all know that I'm alive and kicking! (I hope that the same applies to you!) Here's a little update on my things:

After I came back from camp (With time it gets better and better, doesn't it?
It was only my 2nd time and by December I'm soooo ready to come back!) time has been passing away so quickly and unfortunately I haven't been able to write to most of you.  But since Christmas time is approaching I decided to make up for it just a little bit....

My exams in September went pretty smoothly (I was really surprised) and everything came back to normal. I got a job as a teacher of English and
school started for good. There's little free time but I'm kind of used to that...

As you may know Ashley came over to visit somewhere around November and we all (Vlasta, Martin, Sabi, Peter and myself) had lots of fun trying to get her to know all the European way of living. Me and Peter, we did our lot, too. Not to mention that we tried to see the whole of Poland in a couple of days, which proved to be not quite as easy as we thought...

Time flies and just recently I went to visit Sabi in one of the major Polish cities, where he came to pick up his family and bring them
back home to Hungary. I had a great time and it was so good to see another Winnebagan this fall.

Anyways,

I wish you all Happy Christmas and all the best for the year 2000!
I'm really anxious to hear what's up with you so please get back!!

Hopefully I will see you soon,
All the best,
Marek

I was a counsellor at CW from 1977-80 and enjoyed every minute of it - whether CW enjoyed me is another matter! I would love to send my sons to CW when they are old enough and I would also love to to return to the waterfront and teach swimming and canoe on the St Croix - awesome!. Tell Phil that I emailed you - he will know who I am! Love to all! I miss you dearly, especially Jim Astrove. Please stay in touch.

Shelley & Chris McCarthy

June 21, 1999

Shelley and Chris were unks at various times during '84-88. We have since lived in Boston, Atlanta, and now Austin, Texas. Chris is a faculty member
at the University of Texas, Austin. Shelley runs a home daycare (afterschool and full time in the summer). Our daughter, Colleen, is 11 and is at Girl
Scout camp this week. Her Girl Scout leader is none other than Shelley.
Our son, Sean, is 5 now and is looking forward to kindergarten.

We fondly remember our counselor days. Shelley considers herself somewhat of a pioneer of the women's movement at Winnebago! Hopefully, women still play
an important role at camp. All the training we received as counselors came in handy this year as we took 12 girl scouts on two camping trips. No one
really needs to know that the leaders slept in a RV, do they?

We always think of camp this time of year as Winnebago is gearing up for another fun summer.

We can be reached at txcav@aol.com.

My brother Rick and I were campers from '54 to '59 where I picked up a love for camping and hiking that I still use 40 years later. I have two
kids, one now married, and Jan and I live in Lexington MA. We dropped in at camp about 10 years ago when visiting one of our kids nearby and
many things seem the same. I manage the computer Infrastructure for Raytheon in the eastern U.S.

This morning I read an interview with Phil L (in the Boston Globe) where he explained his reasoning behind keeping the riflery program. I found
that it was incredibly safe when I was there. Strangely I never shot again except once a year, during college, when I shot for my house at
MIT. Did pretty well, too.

Regards to anyone from my era.

I was a camper from '75 to '81 and a counselor in '84 and '85, and a veteran of several postcamps. I currently reside in Philly, PA with my wife Diane and 18 month old daughter Madeline. I recently merged my printing company with another Winnebagan (John Rosenthal) father of Jeff Rosenthal, Brother of Lee Rosenthal (my father) all Winnebagans. The lot of us plan a trek up north for the 80th this summer and hope to see many of our old friends. If any of you are ever in philly, we're always up for a good game of Wales Tales.

I don't remember the exact years I was at Winnebago, although I enjoyed them.  I live in Chicago now, with my wife (the former and current) Laura Blum.  I finished law school last spring, and am clerking for a Judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit.  Coincidentally, Andrew Kay, who is also an alum and the brother of Steven Kay, who was a bunkmate for a number of years, clerked for the same judge last year.  My wife and I are moving back to Washington, D.C. in the fall, hopefully to work on the Gore campaign.  I hope to get back to Camp sometime in the not too distant future.

Hi fellow ex Counselors,
I am not sure if anyone remembers me but my name is Kevin Gile I was a counselor in the early 80's. My best memories of my past is Camp Winnebago. Hello to Phil L, Paul S, and my bestest bud Jim Astrove.

Anyway a big warm hello to all the Alumni and thanks for the warm memories I still have Good Night Winnebago! Hey Jim remember the Cosmic Muffin? Write soon if u remember me!

March 16, 1999

It seems like years since I have been back to Echo Lake, but the memories never seem to fade.  I am currenty living and working in Chcago. Most of my time is spent in the commercial printing business for the Segerdahl Corp.   Most of you have probably seen our work in magazines such as Vibe, Sports Illustrated, Details etc..   We print high quantity magazine inserts, direct mail and other forms of advertisement.  My business is made up mostly of magazine fragrance inserts.  I find myself in New York every month working out of our 420 Lexington address and running into alumns, James Goldfarb, Debbie Lilienthal, Erik Hartog.  I also take in Chicago Blackhawk's games with fellow alumn and former color war captain, Phil Noble when we can coordinate our schedules.   Phil is living in Chicago and working in the marketing industry in Chicago.   As most may know, my older brother, Jeffrey Parola died in the line of duty as a Maine State Trooper in November of 1994.  My younger brother, Aaron is 14 and a freshman in high school.  He also has a nine handicap to go along with his youthful age!!!My parents (Aunt Diane and Uncle John) are well and enjoying life in world's shoe capital of Dexter, Maine.   They recently bought a new house on 10 acres of land outside of our small town and spend time fly fishing in a small lake/pond that my father keeps stocked with rainbow trout.

I look forward to hearing from any alumns, my email is toddp@falconmail.com

(camper 1980-86, counselor 1994)

I just returned from the Winnebago alumni meeting in New York where was fun to run into Bill Markstein, Andy Landis, Adam Kramer, Lawrence Goldfarb, Tony Mann, Doug Thea and, of course, Dick Lewis, our association President (sorry if I missed anyone). I am living in Connecticut finishing my third year at Yale Law with fellow Winnebagan, Chris Klatell. Alex Guiski--who was living outside Hartford--moved to the west coast (now lives in Luguna Beach, CA) last summer making it more difficult for us to play "ladder" matches (I'm still hoping to move up).
At the alumni meeting, all present agreed that it would be fun to try to assemble a larger group of Winnebagans for an alumni patrol game, 10 point hootenany, or maybe just a dinner (replete with bug juice) and some camp songs. If you would be interested in coming to an event please send me a quick e-mail and let me know. In any case, expect the alumni association to contact you about the possibility within the next several months.

Sincerely yours,
Ben

November 14, 1998

Little Levy here,

Brother to Randy, cousin of Todd and friend of Cliff. Some of you out there may remember how much I seemed to hate camp while I was there, but now I look back at those days as the best of my life. I have grown because of Winnebago. From the lessons Nabby taught me (if you wanted to sit at his table you had to use your silverware properly) to the lessons of working with nature (burying soda on senior beach to keep them cold and hidden.) The land of the brown and the green was the perfect place for a spoiled New York city boy to get some perspective and see that life was more than concrete grids. Who I am today has a great deal to do with Winnebago. From memories of picking black berries in the patch behind the basketball court(are they still there?) to the memory of winning the 1976 camp Olympics (kudos to captain Thorn Posen.) I currently work in television in New York. I am part owner of a production company that does electronic field production (any shooting for a show that happens outside of a traditional studio. re: sketches for "The Chris Rock Show" that are on location.) Winnebago also prepared me for the jungle that is television through numerous patrol games. These journeys into mayhem will always be connected to DR. Bell's warnings that he did not approve of this game(In the voice of Jim Astrove:"Larry Zuriff...with a pin, at 1 minute and 20 seconds".) But the best thing about Winnebago is the knowledge that I was sleeping in the same bunks that my father lived in for 8 weeks some summer years ago. The next generation is Todd's son Tyler Levy Born in the spring of 1998. Winnebagan of the future.

Hello virtual Winnebagans! I am greatly enjoying my freshman year at Northwestern University, but I think of camp on a daily basis. Lake Michigan may be just a tad bit bigger than good old Echo Lake, but the two will never compare in my mind.

I'm majoring in theatre here and currently trying to balance two plays at once. It's a lot of work but also a ton of fun. Just because I'm busy does not mean, however, that I don't want to meet up with any Winnebagans who might be in the Chicago area. If you're going to be in town be sure to give a call--
(847) 332-7299. If you're not headed out here, an e-mail will also suffice. In the meantime, I look forward to seeing those from the DC area at the December reunion.

All the best to everyone! --Uncle Dylan

October 12, 1998

Hi folks,

I am now off on safari to Zambia, Zimbabwe and Botswana where I and Alison will be walking, white water rafting, canoeing, Canadian two man canoes of course, (or should I be saying two person canoes ?) and camping out in the bush. The Winnebago experience should help here no doubt.

Also Alison and I will also be getting married on Livingstone Island which is on the edge of Victoria Falls. We wanted to seal the knot at somewhere truly special and I think we have found it.

I have known Alison for some time now, we thought it was about time we got married, like me she is a dedicated environmentalist, she set up a seal sanctuary in the Orkneys in Scotland when she was a teenager and was also one of the youngest people to pass an ocean yachtmasters certificate. After our wedding we will be off to Mauritius to do some sailing. This summer we sailed round Brittany in her fathers yacht and spotted basking sharks, bottlenosed dolphins, pilot whales as well as the odd French nuclear submarine!

Have you heard from Lawrence Goldfarb and is Alex Guiski still playing basketball as well as he did when he was a kid ?

I will let you know how I got on in Africa and will write when I get back as a married man.

I am surprised to see that there has been no more news since I last looked up the page, only to find that my name has been spelt wrongly yet again. It is Bret with the one T and not two as the usual spelling.

Give my regards to everybody. All the Best

Bret

Uncle Jim and Aunt Ann enjoyed the summer of 1998. An outstanding Moose Summer! Uncle Jim is having surgery on his neck the second week in October and will be recoving until mid-November. After that, ASL 1999 will have something else to reckon with...

We hope all Winnebagans are full of smile and enjoying the fall!

Bob Lilienthal

Since I left camp I have been keeping busy with a non-profit corporation near Hartford. I am the Director of a summer camp for underprivileged children, as well as a year 'round environmental education center. We have 400 acres, less than 20 miles from Hartford.

The camp, 120 children ages 8-12, has one and two week sessions. Over the course of the summer we have 720 campers.

Chris Berman was a Master of Ceremonies at our Charity Golf Tournament (August 31). A good time was had by all, and Chris suggested we get some ex-campers to play next year.

By the way, The Jeffer is now married (Maria), has two daughters (Kristina and Kelsey), lives in Orlando teaching science. Debbie just graduated from New York Law School, and has chosen to stay in the CITY to practice.

Best to all my old friends,

Hey ya'll! I was a camper from 88-92 and a counselor from 95-96, but I am now a junior at Duke University majoring in Drama. I am also happy to say that we have formed a new theater group on campus here at Duke called "The Brown and Green Theater" (guess where the name came from) which has already produced two hugely successful shows...Sam Shepard's "True West" and Harold Pinter's "Betrayal", and we are looking to produce our third show next fall. I attribute all of the theater's success to its Fayette roots....'92 Lodge Forever!

Although, I have not been back to Winnebago since my Senior Arrow year I still hang with fellow campers Billy Kravitz and Andrew Gropper. I graduated from Brandeis University in May and I am now an Investment Banker with CS First Boston in NYC.
Hopefully, I will have a chance to get back to see camp this summer.
Hope all is well with everybody. My email address is

Michael Kolber

Monday, December 15, 1997

I was a camper for five summers from 1991 to 1995, making this my senior year in high school. I just got a letter from Phil about becoming a counselor next summer and, although I probably won't be able to be a counselor this summer, I thought I'd check in with the alumni website.
Following through on my interest with the WAG, I've become editor of my high school's weekly newspaper (which is online at http://record.horacemann.org). The big news right now, however, is that I applied early to Yale and was admitted, so I'm going up to be up there in September. Any fellow Winnebagans there now or going to be soon? Let me know.

Hello Everyone!

My name is David Markstein and I was a camper at Winnebago from 1978 to 1983 and the a counselor from 1986 to 1988. I currently live in West Chester, PA with my wife Stephanie where I buy gold jewelry for QVC (Home shopping Network). My latest big news is that my wife and I are expecting our 1st child in May of 1998. You can be sure that if it's a boy, he will be a camper at Winnebago. I recently have heard from fellow campers Steve
Courtiss and Fred Mogul, and, as always have consistent communication with Selim Benbadis. My E-Mail address is DMARKSTEIN@AOL.COM. Please E-Mail me if any interesting news to report from long lost Winnebagans.

Fred Mogul

Wednesday, November 19, 1997

Greetings, Unks:

I had this dream. I was in cyberspace, and you were there, Jim, and you, Selim, and you were there, too, Uncle Phil...

Wow -- it's good to see that not only is Winnebago wired in this trendiest of all ways, but that the alum page is -- dare I say it -- dominated so far by familiar friends from the Golden Age of the 70s and 80s. I hope people will continue to spread the word and some of those long lost faces from our youth will come back into focus. Thanks to Dave Markstein, who will surely find his way here any time now, I was put in touch with Selim Benbadis and Jim Astrove and so on and so on. It's good to see Steve Courtiss is carrying the Camp Vega torch. I just know he's working up battle plans a la Stormin Norman Schwarzkopf for daring counter-raids on Senior Point. (Do the campers still "raid" each other? I have this awful fear that they just sit at computers and have flame wars, spamming contests, etc. Do they even have computers for campers? Please tell me they don't.) Anyone know what happened to Scott Hirschfeld, Robbie Bell, Jeff Lilienthal, Kurt Williams, Peter and David Sheehy, the Janovers, Lou Phillips? And that's just for starters! Maybe we should have a special sub-page for all the crazy cameo unks who lasted three weeks or fewer; I'd put Bill "I'm Under Pressure/Let me say a word about pink eye" Connor at the top of my gallery -- but, hey, we all have our favorites.

I'm a newspaper reporter in Omaha, Nebraska -- not exactly where I imagined spending my late 20s, but a pretty good place overall. The newspaper, the Omaha World-Herald, is one of the largest in the country. Having worked my way up to this size paper and having spent a couple years here, I'm hoping to move onward and upward soon and, possibly, find my way back to the northeast. That would make a summer visit to Winnebago and the post-Thanksgiving NYC reunion much more realistic. I like the idea of testing one's prospective life-mates with a visit to Echo Lake, as Peter Newman seems to have done successfully!

Be well, drop me a line at fmogul@aol.com and to any Winnebagan anywhere: if you're ever passing through those big square states in the Heartland of our vast nation, stop by and stay hello. I'll leave the light on for you.

Best,

Fred Mogul

Hello everybody out there in the vast world of Winnebago Alumni. I was a camper from '76-'83. Unfortunately I have lost touch with quite a few of my fellow Winnebago friends but would definetly like to hear from them again! A brief history of what has been going on in my life. For the past five years I was a National and Key account rep for Allnet/Frontier Communications selling telephone and data sevices to businesses. Although this was a very rewarding career in many ways it could not compare to my first love which is the camping industry. Hence, I have recently joined my parents at camp Vega where I now work full time with my lovely wife Beth (we were married in Irvine, CA. on Sep. 6th '97). This past summer was my first back on Echo Lake in six seasons and it was most definetly a dream come true! Although I did not get to Winnebago to often I did get a chance to see Uncles Phil, Jim, John, and Paul. It was great to talk to them all again. Anyone else out there I would love to hear from you. My e-mail is steve@campvega.com . Drop me a line! I hope all is well

While there I also pursued an MPH and graduated with another former Camper David Newman.

CHUCK AND JAN DAVIS

Love the new Winnebagan site and hope it becomes a bigger gathering place. I hung out at camp during Uncle Jim Astrove's early days (70-75, unk in 78-79). Jan racked up some post-camps in the 80's. My son Jared was at the post camp 75th in '94, and is looking forward to the summer of '00.

We're in LA since August, and liking it. Moved to a street where the kids go to Maine for the summer. Hence, we're at home in our new home.

We're online at MRCDAVIS@aol, msn, webtv, and Chuck@online.disney.com.

Tuesday, Dec 3, 1996

Jim and Ann are enjoying their first year in their new home in Rockwell, Virginia. Uncle Jim is still recovering from his torn ACL in his right knee (a Summer hoops injury). Surgery went well in late August, and Rehab continues. Jim might actually be able to play basketball next summer and not need oxygen at the end. Aunt Ann enjoyed her class "On the Bay" this summer and will be taking her school class on a field trip this spring out on the water. Decemeber 4, 1996 is 200 days until camp. We're counting the days, of course, to the summer of...

Be good, Winnebagans, and visit camp!

Greetings Unk: Wonderful to see CW on-line. I was a camper '76 to '81 and an unk from 85-88. Now practicing law in Philadelphia, with an emphasis in automotive safety litigation. Getting married on August 25th and several Winnebagan's will be in attendance, including Andy Lilienthal, David Landis, Roy Markel and Jamie Kresberg (all campers and unks together in the 70's and 80's). I knew Tracy was "the one" when she agreed to spend a few days at post-camp, and loved it! Tracy and I can be reached on-line at LAVINPMN@AOL.COM

Hello-- I'm writing from my parents' email address as I'm in transition. I was a camper at CW from 1979-84, and a counselor in 87. I've just finished masters degrees in public health and environmental management at Yale and am moving to San Jose, CA to work for an environmental consulting firm that helps semiconductor manufacturers design safer and more environmentally friendly products. I'd love to hear from any Winnebagans in the Bay area. David Newman

Thought I'd drop by Camp on my travels on the information super-highway.

Instead of (blasphemous thought!) going to *another* camp this summer I'm working at the Faculty of Law. All indoors. Well, the weather's not all that great anyway...

The past year has offered much work and studies. And of course a lot of fun. But I miss camp! All the outdoor activities, the endless fun and most importantly the *camp spirit*!

Please give my regards to the campers and counserlors I met last year.

Best regards,

PS. I have to go - the Swedish Bikini Team needs my undivided attention ;-)

What a wonderful summer! The Year of the Loon has come and gone. As we wait for next summer, we have lots of good memories to look back on.

Sorry to those of you who have waited patiently to see new updates in this section, but I got back home from camp on August 27, 1996. I had U.P.S. ship my computer from camp (I was using it to make The Echo) and they broke it (yet again!) so I am having to make adjustments. Please continue to send in your hellos and let us know your whereabouts and what you are doing! We will be seeing you in the Summer of '97, have a great year!

(1957 - 1960) I would welcome hearing from any Winnebago alumni from the late '50s -- or better yet, seeing you this summer at Post Camp. Our family has made the trip to Fayette from San Francisco each year since 1986. Our summers would not be complete without it. Winnebago remains a very special place.

Howdy! I have been the photography counselor in 1993, 94 and 95. I am out here in Southern California teaching 6th grade and having a wonderful time! I am really looking forward to hearing from other alumni and staff to see how you are doing and what you are up to. Please continue to send your thoughts and stories of camp!
